Valentine's Day Dinnuh

For Vday this year, i decided to pamper my parents with a three course home cook dinnuh. This way we could avoid paying for overpriced food and celebrate as a family too. Who said Valentine's reserved for couples only? ;)

Initially i was abit worried i might not be able to handle it as Vday fell on a working day. But with a little planning, i distributed the cooking over two days and made it in time! (But totally passed out after dinnuh)

Iwanted to surprise you with this surprise heart cake on Vday but as you can see, thecake didn’t turn out so well.

I only packed a pair of leggings for this 4 day trip but insufficient long top which length covers my bum. BRAIN Y U NO THINK?!?!?!

But thankfully i brought this skirt or else all the pictures you'll be seeing unsightly pictures of my camel toe.

Tortilla Wraps

Tortillas was one of my go-to recipe when i was studying in Liverpool.

Its quick, healthy and you can just stuff it with just about anything and it'll still taste so gooood you feel like a champion.

Yuwa and Aiwen labeled me a glutton cause ill stuff mine till it overflows, but to me that's the fun part of it - testing the limits of my tortilla.

Here's what you need:

3 tortilla wraps

1 lettuce

4 tomatoes

3 eggs

2 sticks of celery (each stick sliced into 3 parts)

Cheddar cheese

Handful of dried basil and oregano

3 cloves of garlic

1/2 cup of sour cream & onion sauce (recipe right this way!)

1. Preheat your oven to 160 celsius. Chop up the tomatoesand place them on your baking tray together with the garlic. Drizzle some oliveoil and follow by a sprinkling of sea salt, pepper, basil and oregano.

Pop the baking tray into the oven for about 30 minutes and let it slowly roast till they become soft and juicy.

2. Take out a tortilla wrap and heat both sides in a pan.

2. Slather on generously some sour cream & onion sauce.

3. Two lettuce.

4. Some of the roasted tomatoes.

5. Fry an egg, any way you like it. Mine was my favorite sunny side cause i want it to be runny. You'll see why later.

6. Shred some cheddar cheese over.

7. Slather on some more sour cream & onion sauce and also a dash of pepper.

If you like things spicy (like mememe!), feel free to sprinkle some chili flakes.

Next, wrap up your tortilla. Its okay if your fillings startsfalling out as you wrap, just put them in your mouth and nobody will know. ;)

Slice the tortilla into half and enjoy!

Tip: To make slicing easier, place the side where your wrapfolds downwards. This is to make your tortilla stay neat and cute afterslicing.

And now you see why I wanted the yolk to be runny. Love itwhen the yolk dribbles down the sides and drenches the tortilla. My version of therapy.

Strawberry Creamcheese French Toast

I've never been a fan of french toast. Only only ate it once or twice in my entire life cause it always thought it to be unhealthy. But the chef on AFC made it look SO GOOD i wanted to stuff my face into one right away.

Meanwhile, to those of you who are still running around in circles wondering what to do for your other half on V-day, make this! I promise this would be the puuurfect breakfast surprise.

Here's what you need:

1 stick (113g) of creamcheese
2 tablespoons of strawberry jam (or any other jam you fancy, marmalade would be a great choice too)
1/2 a lemon
Any kind of thick cut bread (i used a wholemeal bread loaf)
2 eggs
1/2 tsp of cinammon powder
Japanese bread crumbs (optional)
A pinch of salt
Butter for frying the toast

1. First, make your filling. Beat the cream cheese and strawberry jam until smooth.(This filling is not really sweet cause i'm not a fan of sweet food, but if you are unlike me, beat in a tablespoon of sugar.) After that, squeeze in the lemon and mix well.

2. Spread the filing onto the bread. You would need two slices of bread for one french toast. Each slice needs to be spread on to ensure you have a nice thick filling.

3. Crack two eggs into a bowl.

4. Mix in the Cinnamon powder and salt and give it a good whisk. Then dip both sides of your bread into the egg mixture, one side at a time.

Tip: Only dip your bread into the egg mixture just before you fry them so that they won't end up soggy. So if you're making a few, it would be best to dip then fry, dip then fry.

5. This next step is optional, having an egg coasted toast would be good enough but if you want some crunchy and awesome, then coat both sides of your bread with bread crumbs.

6. Heat up your pan and melt a knob of butter. Fry the toast for about 4 minutes on each side till golden brown.

7. To finish, drizzle some honey on your toast. Top it with some fresh strawberries or any other fresh fruits and be prepared to impress your lover! Have fun!

After KL, we drove up to Camerons for a short family getaway! Its been too long since our whole family went for a holiday together, the last was about 8 years ago.

But good lord, have you been to Camerons on a public holiday? On a public holiday that stretches beautifully over the weekend?
Let me tell you, you want to be anywhere else but camerons.

The jam was mad. It seem like the whole of KL was there. Imagine it took us about an hour plus to get from brinchang to tanah rata when it normally only takes about/less than 10minutes. /anguish

After checking into the hotel, all i did was curl up in the bed with my book.
Whuut strawberry farm?

Didn't help that the 2 storey suite that we stayed in at Century Pines Resort was REALLY nice. It had a kitchen and living room downstairs and the bedroom was on the first floor. Best part of the suite was having two bathrooms (so convenient when you have 5 grown ups!).

And in case you're wondering, this is how a lawyer looks like on holiday. :D

As much as i wanted to just nuah in the room all day long, i did managed to pull my act together to take a short tour around the pretty hotel grounds.

I promise, we did not plan any of our expression. #siblingspower

Later at night, we went out to tanah rata town to have supper. I had scones (the owners insists theirs was the best in the whole of camerons) topped with whipped cream + strawberry jam plus a pot of ginger tea.
Perfect way to end the day!

Easy Homemade French Fries

There are two kinds of people in this world,

those who like their fries soft, and those who love their fries crispy.

There's no such things as 'not a fan of fries' kinda person.

If you are, i don't think you're from planet earth. (but, seriously?...)

Today im gonna share with you three secrets that are to-die-for.

Secrets to make fries that are crispy on the outside, but fluffly on the inside.

Here's what you need:

3 russet potatoes

A pot of water

Cooking oil

Salt

1. Peel the skin off the potatoes. Alternatively, you can keep the skin on, but remember to brush them clean first.

2. Cut the potatoes into your desired fries size.

3. Fill your pot with enough water to cover the fries and proceed to soak the fries overnight.

Secret no.1 - soaking them will remove the starch from the fries, which will ensure your fries to have crispy outsides.

4. When you're ready to cook them, drain the water from the pot and pat dry your fries with kitchen towels.

5. Pour some oil into your frying pan. Make sure that the oil is enough to cover your fries when frying and heat it up on high heat. Once the oil is hot, throw in the fries and let them fry for about 4 minutes.

Secret no. 2 - This step is to soften up your fries to prepare them to have fluffy insides.

Work in batches to make sure no fry is left out.

6. After you've worked through your batches, crank the heat up to very high. Throw in your fries again and fry till golden brown.

Secret no. 3 - The high heat will give you that crispyness you are looking for.

If there's anything i love more than fries, it would be fries drenched with honey mustard sauce + paprika.

One Day in KL

Drove down to KL bright and early on Saturday.

While waiting for Brian to finish his classes, i did what i do best - shopping!! hehehehehe.

Had been trying to tahan myself from buying anything lately cause i wanted to save $$$ for this mini shopping trip. And Seoul.

Oh btw have i told you that im going to seoul? *waves hand dismissively

Okay who am i kidding.
I'LL BE GOING TO SEOULLLLL IN APRIL! SO EXCITED I CAN BOUNCE TO THE MOOOON! ! ! ! ! ^__^

Ahem. Anyways. Back to KL.

So I was walking around klcc and pavilion looking for a blazer in particular. Cause y'know, one can never have too many blazers.

And i was just about giving up hope when i found this baby in Zara.
The last one. In my size. So meant to be! =]]]]
(Actually come to think about it, this situation always happens to me doesn't it.)

Love how the exposed zips make the blazer more edgy.
Also fell for the the material, which has abit of shine to it cause there's silver threads running across it and you know how my heart goes weak when it comes to shiny stuff.

And best ramen i've ever eaten at Marutama @ Farenhait.
Just look at that egg and tell me its anything but perfect.

The texture of the ramen was really nice and springy too, i've eaten too many which just tastes like instant noodles.

I lined up for Garrett popcorn too cause i just got to find out whats the hype all about.

Bought the chicago mix - part cheesecorn, part caramel crisp. Man, its so SO addictive!

One bite of salty, one bite of sweet. I wanted to eat the whole packet in one go.

But like what Raj from the big bang theory said - A minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips. yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. =(

Oreo Cheesecake Cupcakes

Recently i made someone displeased with me cause i ffk-ed her at the last minute. *weak smile

And she said she won't forgive me till i make it up to her.

So i made oreo cheesecake cupcakes to appease her so that she would sin no more. :P

This cupcakes are easy to make but trust me, its even easier to whallop.

Here's what you need *:

20 Oreos, 14 left whole, and 6 coarsely chopped

250g cream cheese

1/4 cup sugar

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1 egg

1/4 cup sour cream

A pinch of salt

Juice of one lemon

*I actually halved the recipe cause i didn't wanna bake too many.

1. Preheat oven to 135 celcius. Line muffin tins with cupcake paper liners and put an oreo in each cup.

2. In a bowl, beat cream cheese for about 3 minutes. After that add in sugar and beat till mixture is smooth Now, add in the vanilla extract.

3. Crack the egg into the mixture and beat till just combined. Be careful not to overbeat the egg.

4. Mix in the sour cream and salt into the mixture. Good time to squeeze in the lemon juice too. Beat for about a minute. Then throw the chopped up oreos into the mixture and mix with a spatula/spoon.

5. Ladle the mixture into the individual cupcake paper liners and bake for about 20 minutes.

6. Let them cool completely before transferring them into your fridge to firm up. Allow them to stay in there for at least 4 hours, but best overnight.

Tip: Make sure your ingredients are all at room temperature before you start mixing them.

The Making of the Brownie

The other day i was catching up on my weekly dosage of Asian Food Channel.

(Btw since we're on AFC, has anyone been following Chuck from Chuck's Day Off? Mannn, the world needs more hot stuffs like him.)

Anyways, back to AFC.

The (bad?) thing about AFC is it makes me hungry every.single.time.

And crave like a pregnant woman. As if my cravings on a normal/daily basis is not bad enough.

So there was the chef whipping up some brownie which looked so good i wanted to cry rainbow tears.

And i knew there and then i HAD TO HAVE brownie.

Warm dense fudgy brownie. Topped with cold vanilla ice cream.

But i quickly tried pushing the thought out of my head, cause seriously ping. Brownie on top of all that cny binging you've been doing?

And tried hard enough i did not cause the thought of brownie was lingering in my mind the whole night till the next day and i knew i gotta get my act together and just make those darn brownies.

So brownies i did.

And its times like this, i'm glad i followed my heart. Not my brains.

Here's what you need:

120g unsweetened chocolate

1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 eggs

3/4 cup (95 grams) all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1. Preheat your oven to 165 Celsius. Place the chocolate + butter in a bowl on top of a pot of simmering water until melted thoroughly.

2. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar. Mix in the vanilla extract after that.

3. Crack the eggs into the mixture and beat well. However be careful not to overbeat the batter as you don't want too much air in it.

4. Next, fold in the flour + salt into the mixture and pour into your baking pan.

5. Bake it for about 25 minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.

So after getting back from the beach, the girls got their little feet busy shifting things here and there. Apparently they've prepared me a birthday dinnuh all the way from KL! So terharu. <3

What have i done to deserve such sweet friends?

They told me that all the food for the night was cold food - cold korean noodles, salad, mash potatoes and tortilla wraps. So that the food would tahan till night. Honestly, the thought that they put in for this weekend. T___T

And we had cold chocolate fondue for dessert!

The party did not end there.

The girls had another surprise up their sneaky sleeves. They had prepared a mini diy spa to indulge me.

Preaze don't jelly i got such awesome friends.

Seriously the olive oil + sugar is super duper magic. After it all of us were shrieking 'Touch my hands! SO SMOOTTHHH! Touch touch!!' ololololll.

Was rushing out of the door this morning so i wore whatever i *thought* look ok in my mind.

Manatau when i finally had a chance to catch my reflection just before stepping into church, only did i realized that i look like some oversize 5 year old in her kindy uniform. -_- Too late to change obviously.

At least i have on a pair of pretty heels to redeem myself.

Moral of the story: Always wear pretty heels.

Chicken Parmigiana

I think this recipe for the times when you feel a little low and need a pick me up.
Tell me how fried chicken covered with thick savoury tomato sauce AND melted cheese not cheer u up.
Even just looking at it makes me wanna do cartwheels.

What you'll need:

4 chicken breast (pounded till flat)
1 medium yellow onion
1 bulb of garlic
500grams of tomatoes, blanched
1 tin of tomato paste
250ml milk
1 egg
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon paprika
handful of basil and thyme

Season the chicken with honey, thyme, paprika, salt and pepper.
Let it sit for at least an hour or best, overnight to let the chicken absorb all the goodness.

To prepare your base (which is basic tomato sauce), heat some olive oil and fry the onion and garlic till brown.

Add in the blanched tomatoes (learn how to blanch here!) and the tin of tomato paste.

Next add in the milk. This will make your sauce really nice and creamy.
Throw in also a handful of basil and salt + pepper!

Let your tomato sauce simmer for an hour and a half. Stir it from every ten minutes or so to make sure the sauce does not burn.

Next is to make the chicken all nice and crisp.

Crack your egg in a bowl. Season with some salt and pepper.
Place the all purpose flour in another bowl.

Dip the chicken into the egg first. Make sure every inch of the chicken is dipped.

Then followed by dipping it into the flour. Make sure that the chicken is thoroughly coated.

Heat your pan with some sunflower oil. When the oil is hot, fry the chicken for about 3 minutes on each side till its golden brown.

At this point you might be tempted to just stop and just stuff yourself with the yummy looking fried chicken for dinnuh. But trust me, dunt!
It might be the worst mistake you'll ever make in your life cause things are just gonna get awesome.

Place your fried chicken into your simmering sauce.
And cover them lavishly with mozzarella cheese.

Its okay if your heart skip a few beats as you watch the cheese slowly melt on the chicken.

Prepare your pasta as the cheese is melting. Once your pasta is done, scoop up the chicken onto your pasta and tuck into one of the simple pleasures in life!

So after checking in and settling down, the plan was to head down to the beach just at our doorstep. Though i've to confess it took ALOT of willpower to tear myself from our room.
All i wanted to do was just make myself one with the super comfy bed!

But of course i went to the beach. I HAD to.
Haven't got a chance to say hello to the beach since i moved back to Penang. Quite atrocious tsk tsk.

The super highlight of the birthday weekend was the room that the girls booked at Chymes!!!

Its a two-storey bungalow at Tanjung Bungah which has been converted into a boutique hotel. Quite ashamed to admit that i'm from Penang yet don't know this place exists!

Great place to stay if you want to be right by the beach yet somewhere which feels just like home.

You get to select your own body shampoo upon checking in.
The empty spot is our choice - moisturizing.

Its so hard to find nice vintage suitcases! I found one on ebay when i was in UK but ditched the idea at the last minute cause there was no way i could handle an extra luggage back with all the mountain high of stuff i was already bringing back. :P

They don't provide tv in your room but they've a tv room downstairs with a big cosy sofa for you to lounge on.
Alternatively, you can play mahjong or catch up on some reading.

Though i highly doubt you'll be doing that if you're in Penang. Most prollie busy stuffing your face with hawker food eheh.

Okay time to blog about birthday weekend with my girliegirls!
We took tonnes of pictures (as usual) so i'm gonna separate it into a few posts.

It all started a few weeks before i left KL for home. The girls told me that they were planning a visit to Penang to celebrate my birthday! Though they'll only be coming one month after my birthday but was still super stoked and waited patiently till the day arrived. Cause birthdays (or anything for that matter) with the girls have always been a-mazing.

The plan was for them to come over on saturday, stay at my place and to go back on sunday.

So Saturday rolled by and i woke up bright and early waiting excitedly for their arrival. Suddenly received an sms from Amanthhat informing me to pack my bags cause the first surprise was they had actually secretly booked a room in a boutique hotel for the night! *screams

I LOVE staying in hotels! What more with the girls. ^__^

So after a few hours of nail biting waiting, they finally arrived! Picked them up and they directed me to our first destination - lunch!

Lunch was at 42 La Boheme. A french cafe at Jalan Sri Bahari.

The cafe had quite a selection of french pastries/desserts. Look delicious but didn't managed to try any cause we were too stuffed from our food. I'm already thinking of a visit soon to satisfy my curiosity.

I know CNY is around the corner and its supposed to be red season but i've been feeling b&w lately.

Speaking of CNY. I've worn all my new (non-black) clothes (hurhur), so i guess there won't be any new outfit for me on the first day. But at least i'll be wearing new shoes! Or maybe i can squeeze in some last minutes shopping.......

Anyway i've been feeling under the weather this past whole week.

Lost my voice but slowly regaining it back. Was on the phone with Tiffany the other day and she commented i sounded like a chao ah kua. -___-

My cough's still stubbornly refuse to go away. Gets really bad at night.

To the point where i cough on and on till i don't know whether i'm coughing while asleep or im still awake from my coughing.

Le Surprise

The unraveling of Mr Ong's birthday present!

It took me quite some time to decide on what to get him. He isn't in need of any material things now. I mean yeah he does want some things (who doesn't), but i can't afford any of that right now. And i don't like the idea of buying just some random present for the sake of giving.

Furthermore since we're currently in a LDR, i thought it'll be great for the present to be a memory we can think back fondly of. Not something that will wear off.

So after tiring my brains off and being at my wits ends, thank God i manage to decide on the present in the nick of time! Just a week before his birthday.

So tadah!

There's a little story behind this actually. During the start of our relationship (when we were also in a LDR), we created a list of things to do when we met. And attending a concert at Dewan Philharmonic was one of them, but we never got around to do too even during my 1year + stay in KL. So i thought it'll be cool to go together on his birthday.

Anddddd. There's another reason why i chose this. Remember my new year resolution of trying one new experience every month? So yeah why not kickstart it together with Mr Ong. :)

Pumpkin Soup

I used to dislike anything-pumpkin. Until i made my first pot of pumpkin soup.

Beats me why i would made something i dislike. Its just one of the many complexity of a woman.

But anyhow, it was life changing moment cause i...just...can't..stop after that. Something so rich and creamy.

And goes SO WELL with crusteh bread. Rule of the thumb - Anything that goes well with bread goes well with me.

So first thing first, get a nice medium size pumpkin. And a good knife. Cause the you can never find a thicker skin than pumpkin skin. Unless you're cutting up crocodile skin.

Other ingredients you'll need:

1 medium size carrot

1 medium size yellow onion

1 bulb of garlic

Rosemary

Salt and Pepper

3 cups of water

250ml of milk

1/4 stick of butter

So with your knife, cut up the pumpkin into slices and place them onto your baking tray. Chop in a carrot too for that extra flava. Drizzle some olive oil plus a handful of rosemary and pop them into the oven for about 40 minutes at 200 celsius. The heat is the key to softening the pumpkin up.

When the time's up, scoop the pumpkin flesh from its skin with a spoon. And you can thank technology for ovens while you're at it.

Heat your pot up and melt a quarter stick of butter in it.

Add in the yellow onion and garlic and fry till golden.

Next, add in the pumpkin, carrots, water, a dash of salt + pepper and a little more rosemary.

Boil it for about 8 minutes and then simmer for about 20-30 minutes.

Let it cool down before transferring it into a blender. Blend it till it turns mushy.

Pour it back into the pot and add in the milk.

Simmer for another 30 minutes and you're done!

Or alternatively, you can cut all the unnecessary washing and cleaning of the blender by using this magic pot.

Just pour the pumpkin into this pot and let it stay there overnight. The heat of the pot will soften the pumpkin into mush without you breaking a sweat.

Sorry i can't help you with the name of this pot but its something like a pressure cooker, but without using any electricity. If im not wrong, my dad bought it from the market. So i can't help you with where to buy it too. OKAY i can shaddup now.

I was in KL over the weekend to celebrate Mr Ong's birbirbirthdaaay!~

Birthday dinnuh was at The Daily Grind @ Bangsar Village,
cause apparently they serve the best burgers in KL.

And Mr Ong loves a good burger (and a good girlfriend. *cough* just sayin').

I actually bought it just three hours before my departure to KL yet still chucked it into my luggage.

Burgers should be just mouthful after mouthful of juicy succulent meat. Not fish.
Sufficient to say i wasn't satisfied with my burger and was eyeing Mr Ong's burger the whole time.

I enjoyed the mushroom soup though.

I made lasagna recently, and I must admit its one of themost time consuming dish I’ve ever cooked! Took me about 4 hours, maybe causeI’m a noobie but then I see people commenting online that it took them thatlong too. So i’m not alone heh heh, or…we’re all noobies. =[

I want to share the recipe with you all, pretty simple steps(just time consuming). However I didn’t manage to capture all the steps.There’s still a few missing pictures here and there so I’ll wait for the next time I makethis lasagna again to share the recipe with you guys.Which is soon, since my family enjoyed it. :)

Garlic Butter Bread

My first recipe of 2012!!!~~
(Heart Cake was last year. Gracious is 2011 last year already!)

Made garlic butter bread as a compliment to my baked eggplant soup. Really quick recipe and so SO addictive.

Garlic Butter Bread

1 baguette
3 tablespoons of garlic butter (or alternatively make your own, follow recipe here!)
Basil leaves
Mozzarella cheeze

1. Cut your baguette 3/4 deep, each slice about 1 inch thick.
2. Mix the basil leaves (and any other spices you may fancy) into the garlic butter.
3. Spread the garlic butter lavishly onto your baguette.
4. Insert slices of mozzarella cheese into your baguette.
5. Bake in the over for about 12mins at 190celcius until cheeze has melted.

I was telling tiffany how i've worn most of the clothes i bought for cny and she said the only way to stop this dumb habit was....to buy clothes on cny eve ololololollll.

Okay actually not that funny. Frantic last minute cny clothes hunting actually's really familiar to me. I remember one particularly when i was 8 and my parents were too busy to bring me to the mall. So we only went shopping for clothes on the eve of cny eve. After dinnuh.

So there was 8 years old me having the first fashion breakdown of my life stressing on what to wear for cny.

As desperate as i was, I couldn't find anything and the mall was closing so we ended up at the pasar malam instead (only place opened late) and i bought a shin chan overalls. Not that bad after all.

Heart Cake

I admit i've no self control when it comes to cute stuff.

Initially i just wanted to make plain ol boring butter cake. Then i remembered i had this heart shaped cookie cutter in the depths of my kitchen. So the obvious right thing to do was to cut up my butter cake into heart shaped cuties.

Cuteness aside, this butter cake was really simple. And for the first time in my life, i finally made cake which is edible i keed you not.

Moist Butter Cake Recipe

2 eggs

125g butter

1 cup sugar

2 cups self raising flour

2/3 cup of milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

1. Combine softened butter and sugar in a bowl. Beat well with mixer for about 5 minutes until smooth.

2. Add in eggs one at a time. Beat until fully incorporated, about a minute each.

3. Add in milk, flour and vanilla extract, beat for another 3 minutes.

4. Pour mixture into baking tin and bake for 35 mins at 195celsius.

5. Test the cake with a toothpick. Its ready when the toothpick comes out clean.

6. Let your cake cool before cutting them with any cute cookie cutter of your choice!

# Remember to keep your cake in a airtight container. Unless you plan to whallop your cake in one go. Which is a very tempting but dangerous thought.

Met up with my band friends at Chinahouse on Beach Street, which i fell in love with the moment i step in. Penang people this is THE place to be, good food beautiful ambience!

The owners actually converted a pre-war house into a restaurant. So the place is realllyyyyyyy long. As all pre-war houses in penang are. But they did a great job in partitioning different areas of the house so it feels like many small cafes in one.

Anyways yaaaaah so back to my band friends, this bunch of girlies are the only high school people i still keep in touch with. Everybodys all over the place but we still make it a point to meet up every festive season. And last night we found a group of ladies who are strong contenders to the level of noise we make. Baby Buffalo Burger

Today's recipe is for...

....ze amazingggg homemade burger!

It looks kinda complex, but trust me, its easier than wolfing down a whole tube of awezomes cheese flavored pringles ohnomnoms!

I'm trying to document my recipes with step-by-step pictures cause everybody loves pictures. Dounch ya DOUNCH YAA?

So here goes..

Buffalo Burger (makes 8 baby patties)

Buffalo meat (approximately 450grams)
9 pieces of Jacobs crackers

1 large egg

1 butterhead lettuce

Salt and Pepper

Thyme

2 teaspoon of mustard

8 buns (any of your favorite kind)

Okay before i start, in case you're wondering WHY BUFFALO WHY! Chill, you can actually opt to use beef. But we only had buffalo in our freezer so i used that instead. As buffalo meat is kinda tough, the trick is to boil it for about 10mins to soften it up and you're good to go.

1. Bash up your crackers till fine. I bought those in smaller packs so it was really convenient to smash it in its pack. But if not, just put the crackers in a zip locked bag and smash them like the hulk.

2. Next, mix in the meat, egg , mustard and thyme into the crackers. Mix them all evenly and sprinkle in some salt and pepper. Then, divide them into round shaped patties. Place the patties into the fridge till you're ready to cook them, or at a minimum for half an hour. This will make the patties beef up lolololollll.

3. Preheat your grilling pan on high heat. Place your patties on and watch them sizzle~~ Cook the patties for about 4 mins on each side.

If you like onions with your burgers (like memememe!), you can fry them at the side while your patties are cooking.

4. Next, smooth on some butter on your buns and grill them forabout a minute or two.

5. Assemble your burger! I didn’t want anything too fancy so I justpile up my burger with butterhead and tomatoes. But don’t be like me..go crazy! Add in anythingyou like, you’d be surprise how food you thought don’t match actuallycomplement each other really well.

That yellow stuff you see on my burger is actually honey mustard sauce, which is BEST SAUCE IN THE UNIVERSE! Sorry chili.

Shrimp Aglio Olio

I don't like things with too many steps. Like maths. *coughs

The same when it comes to cooking, i'm all for simple recipes with big taste. Too many steps and i tend to mess things up. Like maths, again.

Ameewaiz..with all the feasting lately, i was looking for something healthy and simple for lunch. So i made aglio olio with shrimp. Cause I LOVE SHRIMPSSS!

Best part, took me about 20 mins. Even bester part, cost less than RM10 for 4persons.

Shrimp Aglio Olio (4 servings)

1/2 packet of spaghetti

2 bulbs of garlic

3 dried chilis (chopped)

1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil

Shrimps (as many as you like, the more the merrier)

Cheddar cheese

Handful of thyme

1. Boil your spaghetti for about 8 minutes until al dente.

2. In a separate pan, fry the garlic with olive oil over medium heat. Then add in the dried chilis to give it extra ooopmh!

3. Add in the prawns, fry till slightly pink then remove from pan to set aside.

4. Once spaghetti is cooked, drain and transfer to the olive oil mixture.

5. Mix everything together, add a dash of salt, pepper and thyme. Add back the prawns and if you like, squeeze in some lemon juice too to make it zestehhh.

6. Lastly, top it all up with slices of cheddar cheese!

Anyways,we went to the Tropical Spice Garden at Batu Feringghi for some spice lovin. Didn't know it was kinda like jungle trekking GOOD GRACIOUS. Calling it a garden is kinda stretching it la okay.

We saw hundreds of spices that day, but i can't for the life of me differentiate them cause they all look just like the same leafs!

I'll admit it took me three tries before i managed to get my bread to rise. T__T

Do you how it feels like to not have your bread rise thrice?

Its worst than failing add maths throughout Form 4 & 5. Ok so maths was not my strongest subject....

ANYWAYS,

with the help of my yiyi (mum's sis), we managed to find the culprit (oil!) and finally settled on this very basic recipe from Jamie Oliver.

AND IT WORKED! ^__^

Just before i went to the UK, I was quite fascinated with the focaccia. Basic ingredients, simple instructions, and apparently it tasted really good.

So when we were at Rome for our vacation, we did as the Romans do. Eat focaccia!

The bread was airy, salty, loaded with cheese, sprinkled with herbs and drenched with olive oil. Maaaaan. So good la okay.

So good i had to try recreate it.

I topped mine with a poached egg and extra cheddar cheese, since I was feeling like a posh spice that day hehehe.

Balancing Act

This first week home has been a mixture of feelings.

On one hand, i'm just happy to be back in the comfort of my own home. To be surrounded by family everyday after work. Having meals with them. Time with the dogs. Doing my own thing but comforted with the thought of knowing that someone is just there three steps away. A fully equipped kitchen to mess around with. Miniscule things but these were the things i missed the most when i was in KL.

But somehow though Penang is where i grew up at, things are different, i have changed. Some days, i feel like i'm watching myself as i go about trying to adapt to new surroundings. No matter how mentally prepared i was for change, it still somehow managed to caught me off guard.

So note to self, one step at a time baby.

Bacon and Egg Toast Cups

Today i finally got a chance to spend some time in the kitchen. ^__^

I wanted to start out by making something simple, but epic.So bacon and egg toast cup it was. Cause anything bacon is epic.

Bacon and Egg Toast Cups (makes 6 cups)

Bacon

Egg

Slice of bread

(6 each for the above)

1. Fry the bacon in a pan, just half cooked will do.

2. Prepare the toast cups by cutting a circle on each slice of bread, about 3 inch in diameter and then press the bread into the muffin tin.

3. Crack an egg into each cup, but removing half of the egg whites first cause you don't want the cups to overflow.

4. Line the eggs with yummy bacon, drizzle some olive oil and sprinkle some oregano on the toast cups.

5. Pop it into the oven for 8mins, at 180celcius.

And you're done!

Lately, as part of my plan to have a healthier diet, i've been trying to cut down on meat and only take seafood. My first week and I've been successful so far. ^_^ OKAY maybe except for a nugget. Its just wrong to say no to a gold crispy nugget ok.

Road Trip

I'm ashamed to admit this,
but apparently my parents are more adventurous than me.

They were insisting that we make a roadtrip to Klang - Banting - Tanjung Sepat,
while all i wanted to do was nuah on my bed.
Public holiday ok gimme a break preaze.

But i'm glad i managed to drag my sorry ass out if not i would have missed out on..........

I've always preferred klang's dry bkt over the soupy version. The one we had at Teluk Pulai BKT was really goooood. But fatty. So much so i could feel my arteries choking. But still good. Hehehe.

A year working yet i've still trouble falling asleep on a sunday night! Pre-monday jitters.= X Or maybe its just my body's way of rebelling against going to work hukhukhuk.

Anyways. We had this surprise planned out for Xin Xin's birthday, but she was fully booked out on all weekends for the month of October so we had to scrap our idea. SUPER SAD OK. =(

We ended up having a nice quiet dinnuh after work at Plan B instead. Still fun!

Setting a date to meet up with one friend is hard enough,
try arranging dinnuh with 3 auditors/accountants. These people are always going for classes!

But after multiple sms ping pong back and forth, we finally settled for a date at Fat Spoon.
Which last minute got delayed cause my hairstylist took 2 hours to do my hair. o_O But loving his attention to detail!

Pa's creation before he proceeded to make me video him doing his version of a food commentator ala AFC channel. Couldn't stop laughing silently the entire time i was filming. But he's GOOD.

We didn't really had any itinerary lined up for Hua Hin,
so we just took up the tuk tuk driver's offer to bring us around a few attractions.

Our first stop was this elephant village thingy, which is totally a tourist trap.
But our second destination was da' bomb. In fact one of the highlights of our stay in Hua Hin.

We were brought to the Monkey Sanctuary, which is set on a mini hilltop overlooking the sea. The view was GORGeous, and so calming.

On the way down, there's a line of stalls selling seafood. FRESH seafood. How could we not stop.

Bought this tub of oyster and crab for only RM20!!!!!!!
Where to find la you tell me.

Sweet crab meat dipped in spicy chili sauce, so SO addictive.
I would go back to Hua Hin just to have this again.

After spending 2 days in BKK, we set off to Hua Hin for our seaside holiday!
It was a really nice change from busy busy BKK.

I haven't felt this way in a very long time...but it was love at first sight with this pair of heels.

There's nothing about them that i don't love..the shiny heel, the contrasting criss cross, but above all i love how the colors makes it look like im not wearing any shoes on! I think this is my current favorite item in my closet. Not that i don't love my other clothes, of course all are special /hasty. (Don't want the others to feel left out, later they stop looking good on me.)

OK finally got down to shifting through my BKK pics.
Was going all trigger happy with my new camera (yea i finally got myself the nikon d3100!),
thus ended up with alot of (repetitive) pictures.

So here we go, BKK through my eyes~

We took the train from Butterworth all the way south to Bangkok. All in all - 22 hours. A major feat to accomplish i would say.

I was actually dreading the train ride, but it turned out to be a really interesting and eye opening experience.

We got to see the small towns and villages.
Children happily running around in tattered clothes.
Students walking in single file to school.
Men sitting by the train tracks waiting for time to pass them by.
Paddy fields, lots of paddy fields...Rivers, brooks, trees. Beautiful scenery.
And a glimpse of the poor living condition of the people.
Some of their shacks were only as big as the size of a room. And roads are still just mud and stones.
It was like time stopped 30 years ago and never move since then. But somehow there was a sort of calmness to everything there.

Pa booked us into the Bayoke Suite Hotel, which was perfect location wise cause it was smacked right in Platinum (read: shopping district). Literally shopping at your doorstep.

I insisted we had dinnuh at T&K Seafood in Chinatown cause so many people had been singing praises about this place.

And BRIMEY they were right!
We were so happy with the food that midway through we couldn't help but to tambah more dishes. Best part was it was cheap too, 8 dishes only cost us RM140+. Would have gone back there the next night if it wasn't for my food poisoning.

I didn't shop as much as i expected during my Thailand trip, which i still kinda can't get over with cause helloo, BKK is like the mecca of shopping in this region okay.

Had been hearing raving reviews about Soap & Glory so imagine my glee when i chanced upon a buy 1 free 1 sale for their whole range in Boots. Tried the scrub the other day and i'm hooked!

I know it seems like i disappeared from the face of this planet but what i had really been up to was spending a week in Thailand and diving straight into work the moment i got back. I've been so busy with work i didn't touch my laptop for a week. That's serious.

Anywaayyy. I had so much fun in Thailand! Only bummer was i got struck with a really bad case of food poisoning on my 2nd day in Bangkok. Which really is upsetting cause i've only had 72 hours in Bangkok and a quarter of it was spent stuck at the toilet bowl. So it meant less shopping and NO SPICY THAI FOOD. T____T Totally not cool ok, stomach.

So yeah if i looked pale last week it was because of the food poisoning. And the lack of shopping.

Day One of you gone is no fun. I wanted to record my feelings on your last day got work but fatigue got the better of me. So today will have to do.

Some people say that God place certain people in our life for a reason. And i know for sure, you are one of them people. It had been only a short eight months, but your presence made my life never quite the same again.

You showed me what true patience is. God knows how many times i would have lost my temper at me if i were you. You taught me whatever you knew, and gave me space to made mistakes, cause you really wanted me to learn. You always buy me food, cause you know i'm a glutton. You always watch out for me, and layan all my lame jokes (even when tiffany ignores me, which means its quite bad cause tiffany's the second lamest next to me). But above all, you treated my like a friend, and shared your life with me.

I couldn't have asked for a better superior, cause you're the best. Thank you for everything.

I think i ate out too much last week and started to feel kinda choked up with unhealthy hawker food. So i'm trying to cook my own (quick)dinnuh this whole week in an attempt to get my body groovin again.

I'm coming home... for good.

This thought had been playing in my mind for months. And yesterday, i finally build up enough courage to request for a transfer home.

Making this decision is hands down the hardest in my life. Having to leave behind the person i love, my closest friends, colleagues who are more than work mates, a life that i'm settling down in and trade them all with something my heart is prompting me to do.

To be completely honest, i'm afraid. But i know that five years down the road, i would not look back on this day and regret for stepping out and taking the first step.

But all that excitement got killed cause the day before i gotta know that....... i'll be going to Bangkok end of this month! ^__^

However, I think this is some kinda wicked joke my parents are playing on me. For three long years they've objected to me going to bangkok but last week when i half halfheartedly suggested we head there for raya hols suddenly they got real enthusiastic about the idea. -__- I think my real parents got abducted by aliens or something.

Since its such a last minute trip, we have no choice but to take the train there. Estimated traveling duration - 22 hours one way. T_T Haro flat baht (ha ha ha gedddddddit?).
